EREBOS

EREBOS – WILL GET YOU!

They are dark elves, barbarians, dwarves and werewolves. They live in a mysterious and fantastic world of magic and danger. Behind every tree, beyond every mountain, in the labyrinthine streets, in the huge arenas of this fantasy universe, new challengers await them at every turn.

Their names are Sarius, Bloodwork and Sapujapu. They are avatars. Hiding behind the shields of their virtual identities, the gamers are, in reality, students at a London high school.

They spend all their free time playing.

Their battles and duels are dog-eat-dog.

They don’t know the winner is a foregone conclusion – the victor’s name is EREBOS.

EREBOS is the God of Darkness in Greek mythology.

When 16-year-old Nick finally gets his longed-for CD he feels he has joined the chosen few.

EREBOS – the game is already waiting for him. Like an old friend it seems to know about Nick’s hidden fears and inner longings, such as being separated from his beloved brother or his useless efforts with regard to Emily – an attractive schoolmate who doesn’t even seem to notice him.

Nick performs his first fights successfully. Climbing level after level, enhancing his status and fighting strength, he discovers unexpected power. In the underworld’s arenas he bravely faces his opponents, of whom he knows only one thing; they are his classmates. Soon, Nick leaves all doubts and moral concerns behind. He wants to fulfill each task required of him – at any cost. His life is all about the game. Finally, he has found his place. Finally, he can transform his feelings for Emily into anger, and destroy his rivals.

EREBOS knows neither mercy nor time-outs. It demands total and unquestioning obedience – in both worlds. But when Nick does dare to put scruples first, and fails to perform an allotted task, he is banned from his online paradise. Worse still, Nick is outlawed. Confronted with the fate of a traitor, he realizes he is now on EREBOS’ list.

EREBOS doesn’t tolerate any refusal to obey orders.

Together with Emily, Nick starts his own fight. Emily names her avatar Hemera – in Greek mythology the Goddess of Day. Hemera wants to shed light on the underworld, wants to find out who’s behind this dark and powerful game.

It’s a challenge that will soon put Nick to his most dangerous test.
